BARDAČA: BUILDING ACTIONS for the RESTORATION and PROTECTION of a CRITICALLY DEVASTATED AQUATIC AREA"

Bardača was once one of the most important wetland areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today it is critically endangered due to long-term drainage and human activities.

Within the framework of the DaWetRest (Danube Wetlands Restoration) project, we are monitoring the possibilities for restoring this valuable ecosystem.

On the experimental area that we cleared and refilled with water, we are conducting the first analyses to establish the baseline condition of the wetland. In addition to testing for the presence of pesticides in water and soil, we are also analyzing biodiversity, including plankton and benthos.

The results of this research will serve as a basis for further monitoring and for assessing the success of the habitat restoration.
